The browser is slow now... I would like to find something that is similar to this. I don't understand why Firefox 3.6 has to be changed. Not everyone can afford newer computers

As has been posted above, Firefox 10 will run fine with 1GB of RAM, or even less.

When you do the upgrade, are you using Firefox's internal updater, or are you downloading the file directly from www.getfirefox.com? I would try disabling anti-virus just temporarily, then downloading again, run the installer, then re-enable your anti-virus. You should be all good to go then!

I was so happy when I got a second MB of memory on my XP laptop, but I understand that not everyone can do it...

I don't know whether anyone has recently compared browsers to see which perform best with limited memory available. You might have to test for yourself.

If you are still running IE7, have you tried IE8?

If you haven't tested Google Chrome, you could give it a try.

By the way, if there are specific performance issues such as slow startup, slow page loading, etc., please list them so you can get suggestions on those.

How much memory do you have on your computer?

Did you already try to update to the latest Firefox 3.6.27 version (3.6.28 is upcoming)?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I think you have a problem unrelated to memory, i am running Firefox 10.0.2 on LESS than one gig of Ram with no problem what so ever.

Firefox 10.0.2 should be working fine with your 1 GB RAM installed.
You can close down unneeded programs temporarily if you notice too much paging to disk.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"
