Firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window you must first close the existing Firefox process or restart your system. Why do I keep on getting this dialogue window?

When I use Firefox and close it after a while with my Pc still running, I cannot get Firefox to open again. It keep on giving me the message which I quoted.
