Firefox updated (I can't even see which version) and keeps asking me to "install helper" before opening, but I don't remember the password, and the pop-up login has no way to retrieve it. So I'm locked out of Firefox altogether. How do I get past this? How can I find or reset my password if Firefox won't open without it?

I'd suggest downloading the full installer image from firefox.com and overwriting your existing app bundle to iron out any permission issues.
