Thunderbird won't connect 2fa or OAuth2 with GMX email
My email provider is GMX and I have completed 2fa with an app-specific password for Thunderbird. The setup was authenticated.
For Thunderbird, under my email address setup I have included my name, email address (rdoty@gmx.com), the app-specific password for Thunderbird and the personal password for my email account.
Under my account settings I have entered my Account Name as my email address and also for the email address entry. Under Privacy and Security/Saved Passwords they are as follows; imap://gmx.com (imap://gmx.com) along with the app-specific password, but the SMTP does not show and I'm not sure how that gets entered.
The SMTP info is included under Account Settings as follows; Description = GMX Freemail, Server Name = mail.gmx.com, Port=465, Connection Security = SSL/TLS, Authentication Method= Normal Password and Username = rdoty
I did disable Encrypted Web Scan in my AV software Bitdefender
When I select Get Messages Thunderbird always times out and won't connect. What do I need to do to get TB to recognize GMX?

This seems to be a significant problem now. My connection to GMX began to experience the "timing out" issue a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if it's related to the most recent releases of Thunderbird (148 and 149) or if it's a new but unrelated bug.
Sadly, no one at Mozilla seems interested in investigating and resolving this problem. As a result, I've had to switch to Outlook as my email client. Outlook connects to GMX without any issues.
Thanks for your reply.
I've have spent the better part of three days trying to get the two to connect and I'm about to give up. I now have an even bigger problem - for some reason the Account Settings tab for my GMX account is no longer there. I was told by some "support" person that I needed to reset my password and it would return. (Note: Why, if I can access my account with my password do I need to reset my account password to get the Account Settings tab to reappear???) Anyway, I reset my password and of course it changed nothing. I have a GMX email account. I can access my account because I have the password, but I can't change any settings because my Account Settings selection is gone and because of that I can't change email clients!!!!
What's maddening is that until about three or four years ago you could contact a human support person who would walk you through some issue. Not today. It's a stone wall, both GMX, Thunderbird and two other email clients I checked out. Everything is AI, which is where I turned for answers. AI was helpful but sometimes contradictory, and still couldn't solve the problem. Anyway, thanks again for your response. ( A quick aside) Your email struck me as a little humorous - Clyde. The name of the town where I was born and grew up and the name I gave to a dog I used to have.
