How can I or can I lock my desktop so that only tiles I select appear and do not change unless I change them? I have recommended stories turned off in settings and seemingly every site I visit and article I read shows up on my desktop to replace something I actually want on my desktop.

If you are referring to shortcuts: hover over a tile, click on the three dots, and click on "Pin".
