How to stop Thunderbird from trying to download emails, email address no longer used

Problem: I no longer have access to 1 email address but need to keep the emails and access them in Thunderbird. When I download other email addresses that are still active Thunderbird tries to access the no longer working emails and I get errors.

Is there a way to make changes to this account that is no longer active but still be able to access the emails in that account? And stop the errors

Have you considered moving the folders to local folders?
