Thunderbird 91.2.0 automatically updated (also updated from 32 to 64-bit).

The contact list in Write new email & the Address Book are blank and non responsive. However, the type ahead still correctly fills in information from the address books. I was able to copy all my addresses to a text file using the type ahead (a, then b, then c, ...). I cannot create a new contact, or new address book. Search in Contacts & Address Book returns nothing.

Everything else seems to work fine, except that I can't send email (nothing happens when I click send)

I restarted my WIN-10 computer - no change. I completely uninstalled Thunderbird, then downloaded and reinstalled - also no change.

Try the solution I posted here. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1352450#answer-1448774 This sounds similar enough to justify trying it.

Matt, thanks for the quick response.

I cleared the read-only checkbox, restarted TB, but no change. I attached my current error console display [Started TB, opened and closed Address Book, tried to send a test file - didn't work].

My profile directory is: C:\Users\Ralph3\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles (which is where your directions took me as well).

After the reinstall, I closed TB and moved the following files to a backup folder: abook.mab.bak, abook-1.mab.bak, history.mab.bak - - I also saved copies of the regenerated abook.sqlite, abook-1.sqlite, abook-2.sqlite, history.sqlite files. - - I moved global-messages-db.sqlite to my backup folder and restarted TB (a new global database file was created. [none of this made a difference]

These files from 2001 are still in my profile directory (no corresponding sqlite files exist): netcenter.mab, verisign.mab, XVFGLR7F.mab

P.S. Help!

Option: If I could backup my email files and directories, could I move my entire Profile to a temp directory, restore my emails and recreate my address book by hand? Will the Beta MozBackup-2012 do this? Is there a better newer TB email backup I could use?

There is no solution!

I backup (Acronis, bit-for-bit clone) my C-Drive about twice a year; my last backup was in May 2021. I moved my TB profile (entire directory) to a temporary place and replaced it with my profile from May. -- No change (except for the loss of emails after May).

I fully uninstalled and reinstalled TB (from a fresh download) - twice. -- No change.

Apparently, the automatic TB 91.2.0 update scrambled a registry entry. -- Irreversible!

My solution: (1) Give up, (2) Buy a TB to Outlook mail converter utility, (3) Setup and transition to Outlook.

Note: My contacts exist, but the TB address book does not work and I could not create a file to migrate my contacts. I was able to manually copy my contacts to a text file (one at a time) from within the Write New Message dialog. I'm slowly creating a new Outlook contact list from emails, holding the text file as a backup as needed.

Matt, thank you for your patience in working on this issue. I have been following the many different threads addressing it and feel like I'm searching for a needle in a needle stack.

I attempted to clear the Read-only square on my profile directory and when I immediately look at the Properties again, the black square is back in the Read-only checkbox. (This has been an issue on all of my Win10 PC's for years now)

Can you provide information on specific files in my profile that I can attempt this on? I see that some have the read only lock set and some do not, so perhaps I can find and clear the setting on the correct ones.

If there's no solution, I'll have to drop back to TB 78 (in the hope this won't corrupt my profile) which is a shame since 91 has so many fine enhancements and represents a lot of hard work.

BlueForces,

I already tried Matt's read-only fix -- It didn't work. Replacing the entire Profile directory from a backup and installing a new clean TB 91.2.0 didn't change anything either. There's nothing left except the registry and I'm not about to edit that without very detailed information of all the TB related registry keys and values.

I have this problem too. Originally posted here: https://support.mozilla.org/en- US/questions/1354532

Here is additional info:

Upon entering text in the "To" field, the error console reports:

[Exception... "Exception thrown by jsaddrbook://pab.na2: Component returned failure code: 0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED) [mozIStorageService.openDatabase]" nsresult: "0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED)" location: "JS frame :: resource:///modules/AbAutoCompleteSearch.jsm :: startSearch :: line 495" data: no] AbAutoCompleteSearch.jsm:495:13

   startSearch resource:///modules/AbAutoCompleteSearch.jsm:495
   AsyncFunctionThrow self-hosted:696
   startSearch resource:///modules/NewsAutoCompleteSearch.jsm:101

After choosing an address, the error console reports:

Could Matt or one of the other nice volunteer tech support people confirm that the Windows registry was scrambled by the 91.2 install? If so, please escalate this ticket to the developers in hopes of getting a fix. Thank you.

Having established it is not related to the read/write lock on *.sqlite files, can someone suggest an alternate cause?
