A new problem last 6 months. Weekly requests to update. My prefs don't offer the recommended option: gen;home page;if it includes: moz/en-US/; My Ff v69.0.1
During last six months, nearly every month, FF has asked to update with a pop-up. I don't see a FF update tab. The instructions for FF update: 1 pref; 2 gen; 3 home page (the words home page don't appear.) 4 If it includes: http:// www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0/whatsnew is not on the page. That's confusing. My version is 69.0.1. I've lost all history (not important) but have lost 100 plus bookmarks. Also all of my passwords that were carefully stored. Gone. I'd love to hear how everyone tracks their passwords. I've got so many old user names and different passwords that I can't change that this was a real loss. I'm gradually placing everything on a page document on my iMac. Is that safe? I'm wondering if something like Norton is causing the problem, or it's a problem that Apple can fix. I didn't want Catalina, but I'm stuck and that could be the problem. I"m not a tech person. Documents, emails, photos and music are it. Many thanks and Happy New Year.

Firefox 69.0.1 is not the latest release of Firefox, so you will probably want to update to the latest version (currently 72.0.1). The steps for that are outlined in the Update Firefox to the latest release documentation.
You are just going to click the menu button in the top-right corner of the screen, select Help and then About Firefox. That should automatically start downloading the latest version of Firefox, and you will be asked to restart Firefox when it's completed.
As for any missing data that you can't find (bookmarks, passwords, etc), it's likely that the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks page will help you get that information back, in particular the Determine if Firefox has created a new profile section.

When I reinstalled I needed to go through the entire process again. Then I decided to check the monitor. I had several security breaches which surprised me since I use apple and have Norton. I ran Norton last night and it said everything was fine. In your experience is it best to stick to one security program? It's not useful for FireFox to tell me that I have had three breaches unless they can delete the companies? And I don't understand why Norton or Apple wouldn't report the problem.
I don't want to change all of my passwords again (perhaps it's best not to save passwords in FireFox?) since I have lost all the saved passwords. However, I'm slowly creating a pages doc which lists all of the sites and the user name and passwords that I use. And I don't know if the page with passwords can be hacked.
I also clicked on Keys. A number of items popped up. I'm going to call Apple and ask. Perhaps something there is interfering?

When it sounds like you are seeing are notifications from [Firefox Monitor]. Firefox Monitor is a free service that monitors data breaches to see if your account information is listed in any of them.
You may receive general notifications of breaches, warnings if your account information (email) is listed on a data breach or warnings if your password has been listed in a data breach.
The Firefox Monitor service is entirely different from other security programs, like Norton. It has nothing to do with any viruses or infections on your computer.
