How can I get quickfilter to search through the most recent emails first and the oldest ones last?

Typically, I use quickfilter to find relatively recent emails that I need to refer to, or answer. When I type terms into quickfilter, it searches through the oldest emails first and slowly works its way to the most recent. I don't care about emails from two years ago. A lot of time is wasted going that far back.

Gosh. Why don't you file the old messages?

I keep my Inbox empty. I deal with messages as they arrive and file or delete them.

Do you not sort on date? That would keep the newest ones at the top.

This add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/gmailui/ lets you specify the date as part of the filtering action. So, for instance, d:2016/03 would show only messages from March. You can use after: and before: or even set a range of dates, e.g.

before:2016/03/05 after:2016/02/27

or you can use days:(3 -5) to find messages 3 to 5 days old.

See here: https://cdn.rawgit.com/wangvisual/expression-search/master/content/help.html for a list of possible filtering modes.
