When I delete an email on my iPad, is there a way to prevent it from getting deleted on my desktop Mac? As I understand it, this is because both devices are iMap, and the way to resolve thois is to switch to POP accounts. But how do you do that, if indeed that's the solution.

IMAP messages reside on the server and you remotely view them on your devices. Why do you feel the need to delete them from one device and still see them on the other?

IMAP messages reside on the server. Marking it for deletion from any device removes it from the server and then it is not viewable from your remote devices.

If you want to keep a copy on your desktop running Thunderbird place a copy in your Local Folder before deleting it. As for working your iPad I have no idea. Thunderbird does not run on tablets.
