Can I force Firefox to use Google as default search? I have removed all others from the options list, and also deleted from within the Firefox files in my SearchPlugins folder under Browser folder. So frustrated to be forced to use Yahoo.

Doesn't it help to set the default search engine in Options/Preferences > Search?

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

You can type or paste this chrome URI in the location/address bar to open the previously used window to manage search engines and possibly bookmark this page.

  • chrome://browser/content/search/engineManager.xul

The setting stay the same but when I use the Firefox search bar it still resorts to Yahoo.. I have only Google ticked in preferences and the others are all not even there!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I had to untick McAfee safe search.. then it would accept the Google only option. Maybe McAfee is somehow joined with Yahoo at the mo.
