Suddenly since Friday 21.08.2026 morning every single person in our company started to call the IT department that their Thunderbird client is printing out blank pages (white pages) instead of attachments from emails.
What is happening -> Employee gets email with PDF attachment -> clicks to open it in thunderbird print preview -> prints -> blank page comes out.
What works -> Downloading the PDF and printing it. Opening the PDF in any other browser than Thunderbird and printing it.
No settings or updates were changed and it's a big issue affecting multiple computers.
What I tried doing -> Trying different printer (No fix), Resetting print settings in thunderbird (No fix). Trying other PDF attachments from older emails (No fix). Looking at print settings in windows (Which I didn't change since it only doesnt work in Thunderbird).
Problem is that on thunderbird in my office, This doesn't happen. We have the same versions and settings.
I tried opening the error console while opening the PDF and on computers where it doesnt work it shows me an error with along the lines of "This document is open in compability mode due to **** header <doctype html>" Something like that but i would have to check again.
I don't get this error on my personal PC.

We are facing a critical printing issue with Thunderbird 154.0 (64-bit).
Emails are not printing from Thunderbird and are coming out as completely blank pages. However, the same email/file prints perfectly when saved to a folder and printed from there. This confirms that the printer is working properly and the issue is specifically with Thunderbird.
The problem is affecting multiple systems in our office as well as our Ahmedabad branch, which is seriously impacting our daily work.
This issue requires immediate attention. Please investigate and provide a solution/workaround at the earliest.

I've found out that on both Linux and Windows since the last update (154.0), the PDFs printed directly from the Thunderbird PDF viewer, prints out blank PDF.
To recreate this, open a PDF attachment in an email, simple double click on it, in the top right corner on the tool bar, press the little printer icon, choose either "Save as PDF" or print to the actual printer, in both cases, you will get one blank PDF page.

This post is more for posterity than asking for a solution because all similar topics ended up being Avast antivirus interfering or something less nefarious. In my case eM client started having this problem first, then I switched to TB, but the same issue here. Of all places, the best clue was found on [[Linux mint|https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=213352]] forums. It was a permission problem. Right click on C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird -> properties -> security. I did two things and not sure which one did it, but they pretty much achieve the same. The Users group in the list only had read permissions so I gave it full access to the folder and checked the option to set the same permission changes to all subfolders. I also added my own personal user to that list and gave that full permissions. Oh yeah, also changed owner to myself from whatever default windows group was there before. Now, do I know the full repercussions of doing this? No. Pretty sure this just created a security hole inside my C drive, but... I don't really care at this point. If I had to fix this again, a solution might be to instruct TB to store the the email files somewhere else rather than where it is installed itself (somewhere less locked down than Program Files).
The Account Passwords need frequent updating though, they have not changed with Gmail.
Why is this happening?

I get emails with PDF attachments dozens of times a month. When I print the PDF's, I always select "print headers & footers" and never had an issue until this morning. Now if I "print headers & footers" all I get is headers & footers, no portion of the PDF file is visible on the printout. If I unselect that, what I get is a blank page. Changing margins doesn't help. Changing the Scale doesn't help. Saving the files and then printing them from Adobe works fine, but obviously I don't want those extra steps and I DO want the headers & footers from Thunderbird.
Windows 11 home, 25H2 26200.9168 Thunderbird 154.0 64 bit, it auto-updated itself to this version sometime in the last day or two.

A couple of days ago we could no longer send or receive email through Thunderbird. When we try, we get the notification "Connection to server mobile.charter.net to [email address] failed" and repeatedly get the notification that our server connection has timed out. We can send/receive through Charter's webmail site, but not through our Thunderbird email client. Thank you for your help.

8.24.2026 As of yesterday, Thunderbird Inbox new messages have no content showing. Today, a few new messages can through with a date stamp only-- no subject or sender info and no content when clicked on. Ran the Troubleshooter procedure in which all old Inbox messages vanished. Some slowly came back with subject/sender info but now their content is missing. Today, Spam folder held new messages w/subject/sender line and content showing. But still no new emails with/subject/sender and content. just a time stamp. What's going on?

THUNDERBIRD 154 - IMAP MESSAGE LIST EMPTY AGAINST MERAK MAIL SERVER 8.5.0
SUMMARY Account sets up successfully. Folder tree enumerates. Message counts and unread counts are correct (folders render bold for unread). No messages are ever displayed in the message list pane, in any folder, regardless of size.
ENVIRONMENT
Client : Thunderbird 154.0, Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2 (19045) Server : Merak Mail Server 8.5.0 (2006), IMAP 143 STARTTLS Auth : CRAM-MD5
SERVER CAPABILITY STRING
IMAP4rev1 AUTH=CRAM-MD5 AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=LOGIN AUTH=PLAIN SORT THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT UIDPLUS QUOTA ACL NAMESPACE CHILDREN IDLE UNSELECT STARTTLS
Note: no CONDSTORE, LIST-EXTENDED, ESEARCH, MOVE, LITERAL+, SPECIAL-USE.
REPRODUCTION
1. Add IMAP account (autoconfig finds 143/STARTTLS correctly). 2. Wait for folder discovery to complete. 3. Click any folder. Message list pane is empty.
OBSERVED
- Empty on every folder, including a 7-message folder and a 19-message folder, so this is not a volume or indexing-time issue. - Reproducible on a brand new profile with only this account configured. - All folders confirmed subscribed via Subscribe dialog. - Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+J) shows nothing when a folder is clicked. - "Run search on server" + Search returns nothing, AND no SEARCH command ever reaches the server (confirmed in server log). The request is never put on the wire. - Setting mailnews.imap.jsmodule=false has no effect.
CONTROL - SERVER IS HEALTHY
The exact command Thunderbird issues works correctly from curl on the same machine, same credentials, same account:
curl.exe -v -u stem --url "imap://<server>/INBOX" \
--request "UID FETCH 1:* (FLAGS)"
Returns all 2932 messages with UIDs and flags. SELECT INBOX reports: * 2932 EXISTS * OK [UIDVALIDITY 1435733459] * OK [UIDNEXT 45598]
Bounded FETCH (FETCH 1:5 (FLAGS)) also returns correctly.
CONTROL - CLIENT IS OTHERWISE HEALTHY
CardDAV and CalDAV from the same Thunderbird install to a Nextcloud server work correctly - address book and calendars sync fine. Outlook (with the same mailbox) reads this server without issue.
LOGGING NOTE
MOZ_LOG=IMAP:5 produces no log file at all in 154 (tried via batch file, as administrator, with Thunderbird fully exited, log path outside any redirected folder). The MozillaWiki instructions for IMAP logging appear to be out of date.
