I'm trying to add an email account to Thunderbird for Android and am told the email address I have been using for 30 years is invalid. Any suggestions or insight?

I tried Gmail and it's not accepting and I tried charters mobile from Spectrum and it's not accepting that provider. My Thunderbird service is roadrunner.
