Why can't your program be smart enough to know that if I click on the upper right (X), that That is what I want, and be smart enough to close it's own windows?

I click on the home button then settings, privacy, show cookies. Then I can't get out of that screen until I close the window. I can't even move between tabs. This is totally stupid to me.

There might be a problem with the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies or the content-prefs.sqlite file that stores the cookie permissions.

You can try to remove or rename both files to see if this has effect.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

hello, yes modal dialogs might be a problem in many cases - i think the ux designers are aware of that and try to shift away from this concept slowly.

what you could try is to make the options panel open within a tab and not its own window. therefore enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named browser.preferences.inContent. double-click it and change its value to true.

I'm on Linux, so browser.preferences.instantApply = true and changes are applied without the need to close the Options/Preferences window to apply changes and continue in the browser window.

If there is a problem with tabs or settings in the Options window then there is usually a problem with the file(s) that store the involved settings or an extension is causing problems.
