I have firefox 4.0 on my work computer and hate it. I upgraded it right away to trial it before I'd do it with my home computer. I hate chrome and now firefox is the same. I know other people who say the same thing. Be original and let user customize their layout. If I'm ever forced to upgrade to 4.0 I'll go back to explorer. As bad as that sounds I'd rather do that then use a chrome clone. You won't let me leave feedback w/o out upgrading and that is stupid. Here's a great Idea be the leader like you use to be and stop following like you are now!

Be original and let user customize their layout.

Firefox is the most customizable browser around and it remains so. You can customize Firefox 5.0 and hardly be able to tell it apart from your 3.6.18 and the changes you make are likely to stay through Firefox 7 (but that just a guess) in any case better to be up-to-date.

You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)

I think you're much better off asking for how to fix something in a user support area (which you are in) than going back to an old version or leaving feedback that does not get seen and might be years before implemented, especially with the old feedback system. The feedback on extensions is very good but you have to be using "Add-on Compatibility Reporter" extension, usually only one developer concerned for an add-on and the feedback is directed to the correct area. But feedback to Mozilla for Firefox itself is a lot more political and there is little regard to pre-existing usage.

Another thing about feedback (1:0) vs a support group (1:many) is that many people are involved and many people can be helped from a single solution which can be found immediately.

I don't want to spend time customizing firefox I just want to use it like I used to in 3.6 and not have to mess about with everything to try and make it work like it did before. So i am sticking with 3.6 until it wont work anymore and then I will have to use Chrome instead, sigh!!!!!!

I find it interesting that many people say they will use Google Chrome rather than take 10 minutes to customize Firefox (far less time than it take me to prepare this answer).  Firefox and Google Chrome look very similar as distributed, but Google Chrome is not very customizable compared to Firefox.  In fact the Google Chrome layout shown in the picture is the same height as my own customized Firefox layout which does not sacrifice the Firefox toolbars.

Going beyond the first ten items making Fx6 look like 3.6, I have another section "Make your own styling changes the way they could have been done" for additional changes.

Hope you find the comparison helpful, and hope that tfcnu(owner) was helped with the initial reply and would mark that as "Solved" so it will help others with a similar problem.

I can empathise with you, because I agree with the concept that the Firefox default look etc should remain constant and appear as previous versions eg:3.6

I believe it should do this because there are many Firefox users who are not very IT literate and prefer Firefox to be intuitive and consistant. Setting firefox with this default would not cause as many problems. After all if people want to use the new look, then they can choose to change their settings rather than the other way round as it currently is.

However, I have found that it really does not take very long to customise Firefox to appear as it used to and I would prefer to spend 15 minutes or less changing Firefox to what I like, so that I can continue with my favourite browser.

After changing the default settings back to the old style, I have found that all updates now choose the settings that I have selected, so you don't need to repeat the settings. The only thing I need to do is check that my plugins and addons are up to date, but you would need to do that anyway.

I would try upgrading to 6, modify the settings to your personal taste and see how you get on. I did not like 4 either and I don't think they are doing any updates on version 4. So it is not worth keeping it.

Regarding the Feedback issue, I'm not sure how you can give Feedback on a product if you do not actually use it. I suppose the idea is that if you are using the latest version and wish to make a comment then there is a facility for you.
