How do I prevent the firefox update page from opening in the foreground, when launching the browser after an update?
It's not that I don't want the update page/tab - I just want to prevent it from stealing the foreground spot (which should be held by the last tab I had opened before closing the browser, as I have defined in my browser settings).

I tend to keep a lot of windows open. In my experience, the "What's new" page always opens in the original first window, so unless I was working in that window, I won't see it until hours or days later.
With that in mind, one option is to start a new window for your current project (Ctrl+N or, if you start from a bookmark or link, right-click the bookmark or link and Open in a New Window).
Important: if you usually close Firefox by closing the active window, that could lead to session restore problems when you use multiple windows. To avoid losing windows, get into the habit of quitting Firefox using the menu. On Windows, either:
- menu button > Exit
- File menu (Alt+F) > Exit
