Continuous Wireframe Bookmarks Bar Icons
All the icons in my Bookmark Toolbar have been working great with no errors for several years, through countless updates with no problem. Then, recently I noticed all the icons lost the color icons and just show as a wire globe. Clicking on them, any one of them, they all go to the same website. If I remove them, got to the website I want there, and drag the URL to the bookmark bar, things are back to normal for that icon. So I replaced each one, and the next day, when I open Firefox, all the icons are again wire globes. It seems that Firefox will not retain the URL for any of the icons.
Very strange.

Ed, it might be worth checking the integrity of your Places Database files, which are where Firefox stores bookmarks and their icons. To do this:
- Go to Help menu (press alt+H).
- Select "More Troubleshooting Information".
- On the page that opens, scroll down to "Places Database" and press the "Verify Integrity" button.
- Once the check has finished, Look for any lines in the report that startt with a "-" or that contain the term "error".
If any errors are reported, try restarting Firefox and re-running the integrity check to see if Firefox was able to fix them after the first check. You may want to repeat this 'restart and re-check' process again if errors are still found.
I did run the integrity check and found no errors. It seems to be a random action, as sometimes I can go for a few days, (closing Firefox each day), without a problem, and then, the next time I open Firefox, all I have are wire framed globes, and they either do not work at all (nothing happens when clicked), or they will all go to the same random website. I have no trouble when using Windows Edge, all the favorites are there and work appropriately, so it is just related to FF. I would hate to stop using it, because I am so used to how it works, and I am very relaxed with it, but if I can't find a solution to this, then I will have to remove it. I can't keep re-doing all my favorites icons each day.
Ed, are the websites being pointed to all the same one, or will different bookmarks now lead to different sites?
Do you recognise these sites as being ones that you have previously visited or bookmarked?
Also, do you use Firefox Sync? If so, have you checked the integrity of the bookmarks on the other devices (in case a faulty set somewhere keeps getting re-synced to this device).

Yes, most of the time they point to Amazon, but occasionally, they will go to another url. I don't use sync with any of my accounts, or internet access points.
This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
- use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button in "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support)
If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot the computer and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
- you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created
You may have to restore an older backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

Ed, are those Amazon links to pages that you can recognise as having previously visited or bookmarked?
If they are recognisable as links from your own history then this would suggest corruption within Firefox itself. Maybe its internal database is going wrong and it is scrambling your own bookmarks with your own history, for example.
If however your bookmarks are being overwritten with links to random products on Amazon that you know are not coming from your own history as you've never visited those pages, then I personally would begin to suspect that some form of spamware might be at work. Maybe an application on your computer, or maybe a Firefox add-on is responsible?
So if those links seem recognisable as links that you have personally visited in the past, then cor-el has already suggested several things to try to fix issues with Firefox's own history / bookmarks system.
In addition to trying those, if the replacement links are not recognisable then you could also run a full system virus scan, and also try disabling all Firefox add-ons for a few days to see if the problem persists.

TechHorse, It just replaces my saved places with the home page from Amazon, or from whatever location is uses, if it isn't Amazon. Thank you for the information, and suggestions. I do appreciate the help.
They had been working as they should for the last 3 days, and then yesterday, poof, they were gone and all linked to Amazon homepage again.
