After the last Linux upgrade to 36.0.2 the password or user name hot links only work once. The first time the link is gray and will activate. The second time I try and use this feature the link is not gray and will not activate.

Every time this happens I have to close Firefox and reopen it. Then I get one more shot at auto loading a password before it stops working.

Can you show what you're talking about? Provide steps to replicate and screenshots. What OS? What version of Firefox? Are you running your distro version of Firefox or Mozilla? What desktop? X11 or Wayland?

This is a Purism Librem 14 laptop Linux kernel is 6.1.8 Firefox as stated is latest version 36.0.2 OS is Purism PureOS based on Debian

The problem started with the latest Firefox release. Prior to that everything was fine.

The problem is fairly basic to describe. When you hover the mouse over a user name or password in a pulldown menu the background behind it normally turns grey. If you click on it Firefox loads the user name or password into the field on the webpage you are on. It works fine the fist time I use this feature after booting Firefox.

The problem is that the second time I use this feature the background does not turn grey and the hotlink does not work. I have to manually enter the password or user name. If I want to use this autoload feature again I have to reload Firefox each time and only get one shot at it before it stops working. A screen shot would just show a grey background for an active link or not.

Setting Security to Basic and disabling all my Extensions had no impact on the problem. This all started after version 36.0.2 was released. Thank you for your ideas.

Make that Firefox version 136.0.2. Also this is the mozilla-flatpak-1.0 distribution.

Try your OS on a live usb stick and see if you have the same issue. Did you try with Firefox from Mozilla to see if it has the same issue? What site(s) are you seeing this issue on?

I made some progress. I had "Never Remember History" set under Settings / Privacy & Security / History. This caused several problems:

1) It disabled new user names & passwords from prompting to be saved. 2) It prevented both a username and password to be auto loaded when accessing a website where I have an ccount. If I selected a user name it would load it, but then stop and not load the password. I had to manually enter it. 3) It blocked my add-on icons from appearing on the tool bar. Ii could dig them out under the puzzle piece icon and confirm that they were active, but they were not. UblockOrigin did not function and the full menu of features would only work if the icon was displaying on the toolbar.

When I set History to "Use Custom Setting for History" and "Clear History When Fire Fox Closes" all three of the above issues went away. This problem is very repeatable when I switch back and forth. One would think that selecting "Never Remember History" would not cause such problems.

I was hoping this would also fix the main issue of one-time only activation of user names or password hotinks. I still have to close and reopen Firefox for saved text to again be loaded into these fields. When it works it works fine, but I only get one shot at it.

I suspect the remaining issue is related to changes Mozilla made to the History or Password area of the program. it is already buggy as noted above. Might have to wait for the next version. Maybe Mozilla monitors this forum and will look into it.

why not try 136.0.4? Memory serves, .0.2 didn't last long, might have issues close to yours.

Mozilla Firefox Flatpak mozilla-flatpak 1.0

Does not show 136.0.4 as available yet for Linux. Might be Windows only for now. Maybe 136.0.2 did not last long for a reason.

I'm running it now on pclinuxos - your os shows FF 137 on distrowatch as its latest FF so maybe you might to double check. I'm likely to take claims to be the safest in the world with a grain of salt...
