Cannot connect... chaos
Hello. I'm in a real mess with Thunderbird which I've been using (and contributing to) for many years. My accounts (mostly Outlook/Hotmail) will not connect. Or, actually, they sometimes do, and most of the time don't. I've tried the various solutions that people kindly suggest. But, I think I've changed things so often - and also rather randomly - that everything is in a total mess. Do you think the issues with MS will be resolved? Or, if not, would you recommend the Outlook app, instead? Thanks!

Use these settings: incoming IMAP outlook.office365.com, 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2, email address; outgoing smtp.office365.com, 587, STARTTLS, OAuth2, email address. For POP, same except port 995.
Accept cookies in TB Settings/Privacy & Security. Check that each account is sending on an smtp with the correct, matching User Name.
Hello. First, thank you for kindly responding. I followed your instructions precisely. I am very meticulous. However, I'm still getting this message on some of the hotmail/outlook accounts*... --- Login to server imap-mail.outlook.com with username ******@hotmail.com failed --- I changed the server name (as advised) to outlook.office365.com and the outgoing to smtp.office365.com... but (unless I misunderstand) the error still refers to imap-mail.outlook.com - which, if I recall, was similar to the pre-changed entries. Do you have any suggestions, please? I'm very grateful for your guidance.
- some are now connecting, thank you... but that might not be significant as connection has been random for some time.
Modified
Hi. It's sort-of sorted! I don't get those password complaints any more. However, each time I fire up Thunderbird, I get a series of on-screen messages from Microsoft requiring me to enter the passwords for each account. Each time I enter the password and click OKAY, this is followed immediately with a message from Thunderbird saying, "Authentication failure while connecting to server outlook.office365.com"
Do you have any thoughts on this, please?
Is the password prompt the standard one or is it in a browser-like window? If it's the former, it indicates the authentication method on the incoming outlook.office365.com server is 'normal password' instead of the correct OAuth2. If it's the latter, do you have a VPN or antivirus like AVG/Avast/Norton etc.?
In the Saved Passwords section of TB Settings/Privacy & Security there should only be oauth:// entries for the MS accounts, one for each account.
Hello sfhowes! Thank you sincerely. All is well, now. I really do appreciate your help. Best wishes, Barry.
