Fire Fox issue

more options

Hi my name is Phil! I always been a user with Fire Fox for a long time and only now I noticed it doesn't feel or work the way it used to! Its like what happeend to Opera to me when the longer I keep using it, more problems would come making it slower or crash often. Some sites might not open properly until I wait later then it opens!

Im using the current version and I always keep it up to date! So Im not exactly sure what could the problem really be? I just want to report speed and freezing issues. Sometimes Fire Fox would just stop working and freeze for a few seconds from time to time. I uninstalled it already and switched to Chrome and Edge for the time being.

I haven't tried cleaning up the browser entirely as I do not want to erase all the cookies but maybe just this once to correct speed issues? Not sure what can solve the freezing and sites not opening.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for reaching out to the Firefox Support Forum with your concerns about Firefox on Windows 11. I'm sorry to hear about the speed and freezing issues you've been experiencing. As a Firefox support volunteer, I'll do my best to help you.

To address the speed and freezing issues, let's start with some troubleshooting steps:

Clear your browsing data: Clearing your browsing history, cache, and cookies can often resolve performance issues. To do this in Firefox, go to the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner, click on "Options," select the "Privacy & Security" panel, and under the "Cookies and Site Data" section, click on "Clear Data."

Disable or remove unnecessary extensions: Sometimes, extensions can cause conflicts or slow down the browser. Try disabling or removing any extensions that you no longer need or suspect may be causing issues. You can manage your extensions by going to the menu button, selecting "Add-ons," and then choosing the "Extensions" tab.

Update Firefox: Although you mentioned that you're using the current version, it's worth double-checking for any available updates. To do this, go to the menu button, click on "Help," and select "About Firefox." If an update is available, Firefox will download and install it automatically.

Create a new Firefox profile: If the above steps don't resolve the issues, creating a new profile can help identify whether the problem is specific to your current profile. You can create a new profile by running Firefox with the "-P" command-line option or by using the Firefox Profile Manager.

Once you've tried these steps, please let me know if the issues persist or if you have any further questions. I'll be happy to assist you further.

Best regards, Suram Firefox Support Forum Volunteer

Hi Phil, it looks like ChatGPT is in the house tonight. ;-)

You usually do not need to clear all cookies to address performance issues. However, it is useful to clear the cache. See: How to clear the Firefox cache.

There's also an article about speeding up the browser which you can find here: Quick fixes if your Firefox slows down.

Regarding sites not opening, can you describe what happens? For example:

  • Firefox acts like you didn't click a link or bookmark, nothing happens
  • Firefox reports an error connecting (what does it say?)
  • Blank or broken/partial page load
  • Something else

You mentioned that the site might open normally later. Does it help to reload (Ctrl+R) or reload bypassing cached files for the site (Ctrl+Shift+R)?

Sometimes users report delays in ability to connect to a site and it is caused by some kind of security software or other intermediary. Although most people are not intentionally using a proxy server, Firefox may discover one set up in your system settings. Sometimes forcing Firefox to ignore those settings helps with weird connection issues. Here's how:

Open the Settings page using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Settings
  • (menu bar) Tools > Settings
  • type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the very tiny search box at the top of the page, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Network Settings" section of the page.

Click the Settings button, change the top setting to "No Proxy" and then click the OK button at the bottom of the dialog to save your change.

Any difference?

Hi some sites don't open and only giving me a blank page when it doesn't load properly! It works like normal again if I close the browser and waited for a while. I usually switch to another browser if Fire Fox doesn't work with one!

Hope my reply helps. Thanks!

Maybe the latest update I have now got problems when you guys should double check bug testing and errors instead of rushing your work out for this update?

Don't rush updates when they are still coming, always make sure you release a stable version instead of handing us a broken browser with new flaws unchecked.

This was the best browser I can only use! Im not going to waste time finding alternatives because others have sloppy interface and limited extensions.

You cannot afford any screw ups with Fire Fox! Please treat it more carefully like my life is depending on it because I already ditched Edge, Chrome, and Opera. There is simply no other good browser I can use than Fire Fox and you should know it!

All Im asking is to fix any new errors and bugs from your current update for a better future update! You got more than millions of users who supported you and used your wonderful and easiest to use browser in the world! I honestly wouldn't know or have any clue where most of us would be without it. Just take care of any issues whenever you see them or inspect them and fix it already. Get to it.
