I note that there are 399 posts referring to this problem. The problem has existed on my PC for about 4-5 months.. DELL support has checked my computer, we have cleared cache and browser and tweaked other controls but nothing helps. I have no problem using Google Chrome. If so may people are having the same problem surely Firefox should be making an effort to fix the bug??!! Just drafted a reply to you from Firefox site but as frequently happens message appeared -

 Something about oops and an error message. When it occurs drafts do not save and messages do not transmit.

Sorry the screen print will not copy across.

I use Firefox as my main browser and it is inconvenient to have to swap between Firefox and Chrome

Can Firefox please fix this problem?

thank you mlmg

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What are the exact error messages?

I am waiting for the error message to occur . When it does I shall copy and paste a screen shot. I am doing this on CHROME. Meantime when I try to sign out of my google account on the Firefox browser , I receive the message below:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to mail.google.com. SSL_ERROR_DOWNGRADE_WITH_EARLY_DATA

   The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
   Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.

I cannot paste screen prints in this format??!!

I called for more help.

If there is still a problem,

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While you are in Troubleshoot(Safe) mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

The code SSL_ERROR_DOWNGRADE_WITH_EARLY_DATA refers to a protocol downgrade. In other words, Firefox normally will prefer to use the latest TLS protocol (TLS 1.3) but during connection negotiations, the server wants to downgrade to an older protocol such as TLS 1.2. I don't know why Google would do that, unless one of its servers in its vast server farm is glitched.

Do you know whether you are connecting to mail.google.com directly or whether your connection is filtered or proxied by other software? I'm thinking maybe a "man in the middle" of your connection is causing this issue. Sometimes you can spot this through a pattern of secure connection errors, but this code is so unusual that I'm not sure it's worth investigating too deeply.

I saw a suggestion in a Reddit thread to change a performance setting related to "zero round trip resumption," a feature to speed up website connections. (Explainer post by CloudFlare) I don't really know for sure that this has no security implications, so it's difficult to recommend, but if you don't find another solution you could try it:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste security.tls.enable_0rtt_data and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch the value from true to false

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes

When I looked up this problem on google, over 400 people have reported a similar problem. Why does Mozilla Firefox not investigate if there is a bug in your software or a fault in the programme? It is not only me having this issue
