Hi, I see you have a couple of cookie add-ons, that you have no doubt been using to manage them - Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Extensions.

They are usually used to store very small bits if info about websites you visit, such as remembering any settings you've changed, or a login. If you don't like them, you can turn them off altogether, but you may find that site specific preferences have to be re-entered each time you visit them.

Here are some articles that should help you to adjust the settings in Firefox -

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

Your cell phone has nothing to do with your computer.

When you say you were bombarded with cookies, I don't know what you mean. Cookies aren't viruses, they just store tiny pieces of information, such as preferences you changed on individual sites, so that when you go back to them, you don't have to set them again. For example, if you visit a weather site, you might change Centigrade to Fahrenheit, and kilometres to miles - cookies remember that, so when you revisit the site, you won't have to do it again.

I would enable cookies and forget about them - it will make your life a lot easier!

If however you really want maximum privacy, you can use Private browsing mode Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history.

yes sir you are right about what a cookie is suppost to be...when i got om my browser one day i had a cookie pop up wanting my permission to install...i have never been confronted with this before so out of just wanting to see what it was it was an id cookie and with further looking into who sent it and was it OK to install well it was issued to the US and it said this was the property of the US gonna leave there finger print...now i don't know what that was about but i refussed the stamp mark on my hard drive...( you ask why..uummm how to put it... i was shot down at my front door and left for dead ...woke-up in the hospital several days later and in doing so my life has been turned upside down falsely accused arrested and on and on ...the law reinforcement did not investigate the insadent or did they arrest the other party involved...) i went to court and had it thrown out but it didn't end there because of me developing PTSD out of the experience i faced and went throw by myself ( besides my family ) no one in the system would help me...NOW my devices are not in my control any more wound up in the hospital a few mounths back when i became aware of this ...i wouldn't allow no cookie stamping my hard drive as US property so the cookies keep coming so fast i could not do any thing at all but accept them tried closing the browser but could not i had to reply to the cookie...i refused and hard shut down this computer by holding in the power butten ...i could keep going on with details of things taken place but you should kinda get the picture now and why i want to know what this computer is doing i have no control over a lot of things keep loosing my DSN ??? in my mo-tom i believe these cookies are the reason i have so much trouble now...i am very sorry to have wasted you'll time asking a simple request that no one will do or even talk to me about Mozilla claims to want to keep the internet free for everyone so i installed there browser and i have been fighting with all my devices to except this browser sync and run all my needs on line ..i think in doing so i am running a double desktop i dont know though...in closing... i am not a trouble maker or a criminal..but i am a disabled NATIVE AMERICAN decedent who has no rights no privacy and up untill tonight was not able to load any security system on this computer...sorry that no one cares or is concerned enough to at least read these cookies or my browser to see what it saying to the intier world about me ...now i am no angle but i do believe i have a RIGHT to know but no one else does...

Usually sites do not put detailed information in cookies. Instead, they store a code in the cookie so the next time you request a file from their site -- Firefox sends a site their own cookies when making new requests -- the sites can recognize your browser. For sites where you log in, that links it to your account. For other sites where you are anonymous, they know what you have requested before with that cookie, but not necessarily who you are.

If you want to view the contents of your current set of cookies, open the Cookies dialog and take a look. You can call that up from the Options page:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options

In the left column, click Privacy. Then on the right side, if you can't see the Show Cookies button, change the selector to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history".

To view the cookies, I suggest using the arrow keys on the keyboard: click the first site and press the right arrow to expand the folder, then down arrow through the cookies and look at the "content" line. That's what's in the cookie.

yes you have helped in some ways and confused me in others ...sorry to say that but i am very thankful for you help in guideing me into learning more about this ...i've learned in just the last few mimnutes that adds are being changed some how and all i really get out of the reading from true to a false ..i don't understand also and claiming " null " to certain things ..this is very very scary to me partly because of my illness the rest is because the unknown of what thing mean...my own anti virus program has loaded a browser extension that some kinda scope local storage ...and i thought when you buy a program for security services and install;l it on your system it does its best to protect you and not be informing every where you go cert en information..not knowing what they are telling the world is eating me up inflaming my illness... this all started years ago and is just intensifying after i refused a government issued cookie that wanted to claim ownership of my hard drive ....what does all this mean ...???? ( means I'm terrified ) Thank you again for your time..

I don't fully understand what you are saying here:

i've learned in just the last few mimnutes that adds are being changed some how and all i really get out of the reading from true to a false ..i don't understand also and claiming " null " to certain things

If the problem is that you don't understand the content of cookies that sites are setting, frankly, that's normal. They were written to be read and processed by web servers, not by humans.

If you want to minimize advertisements on web pages, try an add-on that blocks unwanted ads. For example:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

If you feel that you have untrustworthy programs on your computer, you can scan using the cleaning tools in this support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware (choose the free versions).
