Why does Firefox V45 keep Running after I close it with the "X" and I have to use the Task Manager to Shut it down completely.

Also Some of the time when I restart Firefox , Firefox will open to a New window [Not all my old Tabs ] and sometimes it will Open with "Restore"

I shut it down daily to do a Backup using MozBackup , I would just use the "X" to Close and Firefox would stop running .

I had No problems like this with earlier Versions

Running Win 10

Any Ideas or Help ?

Thanks . . . Rick

FYI = it appears a program/Add On called ReminderFox http://www.reminderfox.org/ was causing the Problem .Lots of trouble shooting of Firefox to find it

I will be contacting them to let them know that I experienced a problem with it

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit

If you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

cor-el = Thanks for your quick and helpful reply.

Yes *"3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)

  • Windows: File > Exit > are another way to close Firefox {besides Task Manager} , but should I or anyone have to use those extra steps , when since version 1 or 2 (senior moment) I have just been been closing Firefox completely via the "X"

FYI = I did use them and they do completely Shut Down Firefox

If you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.= Do Not use'''''''''''

So my question remains mostly unanswered Why does Firefox V45 keep Running after I close it with the "X"

The X on Title bar only closes that one window and not Firefox unless it was the last window open.

James Thanks for that information

"The X on Title bar only closes that one window and not Firefox unless it was the last window open. "

I normally only have 1 window open , but 2 or more Tabs open .

So yes Closing that Window and the Tabs within Should close Firefox , but with Version 45 [at least for me ] it Does Not unless I use 1 of the above methods to close Firefox.

So my question remains Still mostly unanswered Why does Firefox V45 keep Running after I close it with the "X"

Thanks Rick
