I can't open certain links in new tab.

When I right click the menu shows the 'open in new tab' function but when I click it nothing happens.

Some links will open in new tab when I click on it directly, and I can open images in Google image in a new tab, but most of the time it doesn't work.

I already disabled add-ons and is in safe mode currently but it's still the same.

Also, nothing happens when I enter a search in the Firefox search bar and hits enter. I can;t even change the search engine on it.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Please update your plugins to the latest version. Check to make sure you are up to date:

If you see any issues also see:

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Are that normal links or JavaScript links that have an onclick event?

You can check that in the Inspector via Inspect Element in the right-click context menu by the presence of an 'ev' button at the end of the link.

Problem exists when in Safe Mode, refresh doesn't solve it. Nothing I've done makes any difference so far.

Should I just uninstall and then re-install Firefox?

Hi Nex88 , I would agree to try this, however if you want to preserve the current bookmarks and profiles try: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
