My Thunderbird (version 115.12.2) is running on a Windows 11 system. My profile has multiple accounts configured as IMAP to multiple email services. I also have the Status Bar and Activity indicator enabled. Randomly, both indicators will show busy for an extended period of time. When I view this in the Activity Manager I see one or more folders hung for 10 or 20 minutes downloading one message out of several. This occurs in multiple accounts and servers.

I have researched this and attempted the fixes presented. I have cleared the cache files and compacted and rebuild email folders as suggested, but the slow update still occurs.

Then I decided to try and capture a ProMon.exe trace to see what is happening. What I found was Thunderbird.exe was spending all of the time while hung access the following file: C:\Users\MyUser\AppData\LocalLow\Intel\ ShaderCache\4a5eb0e65e559fc08e65ecb2fa9d650817ae895582a7a7ede162866d3e47a05a, like it was stuck in a loop.

When Thunderbird is operating normally, it is accessing this file but only for short period of times. Research says that it is ok to delete the files in this folder. I did that and it seemed to help for awhile. But it started happening again.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is there a Windows thing to look further into? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I keep getting this message "Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox." every time I log in, try to delete an email that has already downloaded, and every time I click get messages to download messages.

No messages have been downloaded since two days ago. I did go on the web version of my email and deleted all emails from that time period in case there was a virus so it's not that. I strangely started when I ignored the compact folder message sever times. I did however try to compact the folder from the file menu, as well as cleared the cash and emptied the trash.

I made sure I had the latest update as well. I am thinking the software is corrupt at this point.

Whenever I try to paste formatted text from the clipboard into a compose window it only pastes as plain text. Is there a setting that controls this?

I have Thunderbird 141 on macOS 15.6. In Thunderbird settings, I have Composition settings set to "Both HTML and Plain Text" but I also tried with "Automatic" and "Only HTML" to no avail. I also tried pasting from different programs, Word, Pages, a rich text document in Text Edit etc. But it always defaults to plain text.

Any help much appreciated!

Hi,

In earlier TB releases (don't remember which ones) it was possible to collapse (or expand) all (sub-)folders by right clicking the foldername.

Actually I'm on TB128 and that seems no longer possible (or I am overlooking something).

I've been searching everywhere, also for an addon to do that, without success. Is there a solution ?

I really don't understand why this was removed. Why is TB always changing (and removing essential) things, mostly not for the better ? Mozilla, please, less "design" but more "functionality" and "user-friendly features"

This release has removed the option to sign-in to my outlook dot com account using a security key. it worked just fine using version 128.13.0 esr. Tried to rollback to that version and I get "account will need to be recreated" warning message. I'm also getting "too many requests" message when trying to connect to outlook.com through the new version. Of importance, when I go through a browser and connect to outlook, no issues.

Something has changed with this release of Thunderbird - which I understand is FREE and I appreciate that, however as a very long time user, it would be nice to understand what's going on.

On wife's laptop, got side tracked and said ok to Upgrade (thinking it was Mozilla Firefox) but it was actually for Thunderbird Email app. Realizing my mistake I quickly closed Thunderbird before it did the upgrade. We like the layout of version 102.15.1 and it's still running 102.15.1 on new starts. But now when we start Thunderbird, the Firefox browser immediately starts and goes to the below link, https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/115.0/whatsnew/?locale=en-US&version=115.10.1&channel=release&oldversion=102.15.1

Have to close or minimize firefox to see Thunderbird. Need to find a way to get rid of this browser startup on Thunderbird. I've tried these below but they did not stop it.

/* added this registry entry */ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Mozilla\Thunderbird

   "DisableAppUpdate"=dword:00000001

/* also added a policies.json with the below text */ { "policies": { "DisableAppUpdate": true} }

      /* in this folder */

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\

        /* and in */

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\distribution\ /* Edit Add, oh also I never check the */ When Thunderbird launches show the start page in Message area /* But even if it's checked it goes to another page not the link above */

/* The update-settings.ini has the below in it */

If you modify this file updates may fail.
Do not modify this file.

[Settings] ACCEPTED_MAR_CHANNEL_IDS=thunderbird-comm-release

/* Anybody know where I can track down and delete where this browser startup if coming from? */

Hello. Until recently, I was using the ESR version of Thunderbird. When I had an email in my local folder and clicked on ‘Reply’, my reply email was sorted into the current outbox. After switching to release version 141.0, emails that I send as replies from the local folder remain in the local folder. However, I would prefer to have them in the current inbox or outbox.

As I can not ring to ask what has gone wrong I am writing it here.

Late last night I received 2 messages which were gobbledegook. This morning when I turned on they all came in the same. One could work out from where they came because email addresses showed up in the text in blue.

I shut down Thunderbird. Reloaded the software from the website and loaded it. Everything still coming in as gobbledegook.

I then remembered that I also can down load emails through IMAP. Went there and they were all perfectly legible. So I moved all the messages to my ordinary inbox expecting it to automatically apply the filters and it did not.

Why is IMAP working and the ordinary inbox is not??????????????????????????????????????

I have a user that can't get their list of folders to populate in the Subscribe settings. They have updated Thunderbird, uninstalled, removed their AppData\Romaing\Thunderbird folder to delete any settings leftover from the old install, installed the most recent version, and they still can't get the folder list in Susbscribe to populate. Their account connects to our email server and outgoing servers just fine, as they are able to pull down their Inbox with the messages, they receive new messages sent to their account, and they can send emails out of Thunderbird. So, Thunderbird just can't get the list of folders to subscribe to. I can see Thunderbird login correctly and issue the Fetch command to get the Inbox. The subscribe folders list eventually "times-out" and the activity manager also shows the error "Connection to server.example.com server timed out". As I said though, the server settings for the user are correct and the incoming connection works just fine and can pull in new emails without a problem.
