The "+" is not showing up to open new tabs after I used the split screen function on the latest version of Firefox on my Mac.

I updated to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac. I tried the new split view and it worked. But since then no "+" shows up to next to the last tab to open a new tab. How can I restore that?
