Firefox for iOS version 146 introduces a new, privacy-first translation feature that lets you translate supported websites into your device's language. Translation happens directly on your device; no data is sent to the cloud, so your browsing remains private.
Firefox will detect if a page is in a supported language that is different from your device language and offer an option to translate the page.
This feature is experimental and is being introduced to the Firefox user base through a progressive rollout. It may not yet be available to all users. Additionally, remote improvements must be enabled.

Use the translation toolbar
- Open Firefox on your iPhone or iPad and visit a webpage.
- If Firefox detects a supported language that is different from your device language, a translation banner will appear at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the Translate icon to convert the page into your device language.
- To show the original page again, tap the Translate icon again.
Customize translation settings
You can control how and when Firefox offers to translate webpages.
- Tap the menu icon (three dots) at the bottom of the screen.
- Go to .
- Tap under .
- From here, you can enable or disable automatic translation prompts.
If you turn off translation prompts, Firefox will no longer automatically offer to translate supported pages.
Troubleshoot missing translation controls
If you don't see the translation banner, Translate icon, or Translation option in Settings:
- Make sure you're using Firefox for iOS version 146 or later.
- Update Firefox from the App Store if an update is available.
- Make sure the webpage is in a supported language that is different from your device language. Firefox may not offer translation when the page is already in your device language.
- Check your Translation settings to make sure translation prompts are enabled.
- Because the feature is being introduced through a progressive rollout, it may not yet be available on your device even if you're using a supported Firefox version.
If a language isn't offered, that language or translation combination may not currently be supported. Changing your country or region alone does not determine whether translation is available.
Frequently asked questions
Why don’t I see the Translate button?
The feature is available starting in Firefox for iOS version 146. Update your app from the App Store if you don’t see it.
If you're already using version 146 or later, check that the page is in a supported language different from your device language and that translation prompts are enabled. The feature may also still be rolling out to your device.
Can I choose which language to translate into?
Not yet. For now, Firefox for iOS will only translate into the current device language.
This means changing your region or location does not by itself change the translation language.
Which languages can Firefox translate?
Firefox for iOS currently supports translation for German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Portuguese, and English. Support depends on both the language of the webpage and your device language.
More languages may become available as Firefox Translations expands language support.
Can I translate part of a page?
No. Firefox currently translates the entire webpage.
Can I undo the translation?
Yes. Tap the Translate icon again to revert to the original language.
