Hello, Experts!

I would like to switch from using Outlook for Mac 2011. I don't want to upgrade to the 2016 version since I've read about some issues. I have several email folders for my clients. Most off them do NOT have attachments. I usually detach most attachments and place them in folders on my Mac.

Would you please tell me how to Import all of my emails, contacts and calendars from Outlook for Mac 2011 to Thunderbird? Is it possible to import one identity?

Thank you for any help you can offer!

I followed directions for using the add-on ImportExport Tools. When I get to the point of importing from the folder with all the contacts in .vcf format, the usual ways in Windows of selecting more than one (such as Ctrl-A for selecting all of them) don't work. (If I go to the file itself in Windows, I can easily select all of them at once.) But I can only select one at a time using the tools to import into the Thunderbird Address Book, which would be very tedious with 350 contacts! Thank you for any help!

My university (U.W. Seattle) recently shifted from a locally supported (IMAP) mail service to the use of Google's G suite and gmail. Importantly, my email address remains the same <gennari@uw.edu>. So I'm migrating all of my mail files from UW to Gmail. When I view my UW mail from the gmail web pages, I enter my uw account name, and then Google fires up a separate web page that queries the UW system for my account name and password. Importantly, this means that neither Google nor Gmail knows my password. After the UW verifies my account, the Gmail web pages let me see my UW mail.

I've always used Thunderbird to read email (which I love) and I plan to continue using it with this new set up for my UW mail. I can certainly use Thunderbird to read and manage other gmail accounts (I have a non-work john.gennari@gmail, which works just fine in Thunderbird). The issue is that during set up for my UW mail, I get an error (see image) saying that the configuration could not be verified -- is the username or password correct? This makes some sense, since I don't think that Gmail knows my password. I think I need some way, within Thunderbird, of telling Gmail to ask UW to confirm my username/password.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

For those who have experience with MBOX to PST converters, what happens with Thunderbird Tags? I extensively use tags in Thunderbird and know that Outlook doesn't have tags. Will tags possibly be converted to labels?

Are there any workarounds to having emails that are marked/categorized with tags to keep those markers when converting to Outlook?

Thanks.

created new accounts but sub-folders different, missing, new, & new icons(?)

For many years I have had 2 Accounts in Tbird. They are POP. I just created two new accounts, and am confused by some differences in appearance. These are IMAP. Do IMAP accounts populate the sub-folders based on a structure present in the IMAP provider?

1) there is a new sub folder "All Mail"

2) No Junk folder. There is a Spam folder. Did some idiot change the name in an update to Tbird, just to fark with long time users? If so they did a poor job, since the Account Settings still has a tab for "JUNK Settings" and the toggle asks where to move the JUNK. Creating synonyms is bad practice, because nobody knows if they are in fact synonyms. One would presume they are not.

3) In the index listing of accounts, each account has an icon to its left -- concentric circles with a padlock. And I have not noticed that icon before, I'm wondering if my old accounts suddenly have a different icon (which strangely matches the new accounts' icons). The sub-folders all have unique icons for each type (Inbox, Sent, etc)

In choosing where to place sent mail, there are two toggle choices to Place A Copy In: 1) "Sent" folder on { [circle&lock icon] ACCOUNT_NAME 2) "Other { [SentFolderIcon] Sent on ACCOUNT_NAME I don't grasp the difference. Would 1) keep the messages on the remote IMAP system? I notice that my old POP accounts are using option 1) & mail is kept locally.

3) The new accounts have "greyed out" italicized subfolders "Folders" and "Labels." Are these associated with being IMAP, or did some Tbird update add them? What are they for?

Hi,

I've got a new Apple Mac laptop and want to move all of my emails and settings over to the new machine. I have several email accounts and some are POP, others IMAP - can I easily copy all the information, including inbox, set items, drafts etc, over to the new machine?

I've found guides to do this but most reference using a PC and none mention if there is any issue with dealing POP and IMAP accounts at the same time.

Thanks.

Further to a previous message, I am trying to import folders and emails from WLM. I have followed various instructions which basically are to follow this link - https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ which comes up with "We're sorry, but we can't find what you're looking for". I presume the add on that was here no longer exists?

Is there now any way of importing Folders from Windows Live Mail into Thunderbird or is it a case of looking elsewhere. I am particularly interested in Thunderbird because one has full control on ones own machine as opposed to in the 'cloud'!

This is for Windows 7 and 10 on desktop and laptop.

Windows 8. moved from windows live mail email client as no longer supported. Exported contacts to folder. installed Thunderbird and imported the contacts from that folder. All looked OK except that I couldn't make it autofill the 'to' field so had to write out email address in full, if I could remember them. Eventually discovered that during the migration process, the email addresses had all been put into the 'nickname' field, and the 'email address' fields were all empty. Is it possible to move all the info from nickname fields to the email fields in one go, or do I have to go throught the whole contacts folder and do it all by hand individually?

Maybe 10 years ago I used Thunderbird on my iMac. - I use Thunderbird at work and decided I miss some of the more advanced features that are not in Apple Mail on my iMac at home. - Especially after reading that Thunderbird could now share both iCloud's Apple Calendar and Contacts. - I am currently using Mac OS 10.11.6. A little behind the times, but I have been using apps that wouldn't run on the newer Mac OS. - Before installing the new version, I opened the old version of Thunderbird, went to the Tools/Account Settomgs and found the directory in the Mac OS library that needed deleted. and deleted it. I did this because most of my logins and settings have changed a lot and I want to import the current local folders and settings from the current version of Apple Mail. I use my email local folders extensively as a type of database to keep a history of purchases and other important information in the local folders. - I then used App Cleaner to delete the ten year old version of Thunderbird and the support files that were not part of the library folder, such as the actual application, Thunderbird. - I then downloaded and installed Thunderbird 60.31.1. Launched it. Chose not to make it my default because I want to make sure it works first. then went to tools/import and noticed I didn't have the the option to Import Everything. See Jpg. attached. - Then decided to try to import just the Mail. Chose Apple Mail. then Next. Got the No Mailboxes were found in the import message. Again, see the jpg. I did the same for the settings and got the "No Application or file to import data from was found" error message. See yet another jpg. I clicked Finish and went to the forums to search for a solution, but found nothing. So here I am. -what did I miss in this setup, migration from Apple Mail and Integration with contacts and Calendar (iCloud based)? Thank you for your assistance.

I couldn't get any of my screen shots to upload. Sorry.

Almost all of my cherished addons are disabled in the latest update (60.3.1). The reasoning expressed was so that "non-working add-ons are prevented from breaking Thunderbird."

What if my addons are not breaking Thunderbird? Am I not smart enough to know?

So someone has made this decision for me (and everyone else), didn't reveal the consequences or provide a way out when the automatic update happened, and now I have no choice but to accept it?

I'd expect this treatment from a communist state, not by my cherished Thunderbird.

I'm turning off automatic updates!

Meanwhile, how do I override this? If it can't be done, how can I safely remove this update and revert back to the previous version which - frankly - worked just fine.

TBird 60.3.1 (32-bit)

I really preferred the old, coloured icons. With the latest black and white set of icons, I find it very hard to distinguish one from the other. Is there a way to restore the previous set of icons?

Why would your developers possibly think that black and white is better than colour? I don't get it. We've spent decades perfecting and improving computing and software, and suddenly everybody thinks we should throw it all into the bin and have bland looking interfaces.

And if you are going to suggest a Theme, don't bother - I spent about half an hour, and couldn't find one that altered the icons.

I tried changing my POP account over to an IMAP account. I followed the instructions provided through Mozilla, however when I went to generate a new IMAP account with the same email address, it said one was already there, so my only option was to alter the POP account to IMAP...which didn't work. Lost folders and couldn't access either account. Had to do a system restore to get everything back. Can I generate a dummy IMAP email account, add it to Thunderbird, move folders to dummy account, delete POP account, then re-add real email as IMAP and transfer the folders back? Is there a better, less time consuming way?
