When a youtube video plays, sometimes it stops loading and that causes my browser to stop working until I restart my computer. How do I fix this?

This also applies to my other browsers such as Chrome and IE. The only way for my browser to work again is to restart it but that is quite annoying to keep doing.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Thank you.

Since this problem affects multiple browsers, have you considered:

  • Internet connection, e.g., ISP, proxy, or VPN service glitch
  • External recording/downloading software that may interact with Flash

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

I've tried that already, doesn't seem to work.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Well this time when I watched a couple of videos I purposely skipped them to a few times and the long videos had the message "An error occured, please try again later". But the browser still works fine if I go to different web pages including Youtube and the videos.

I'm betting you use AVG for your antivirus program. You have to disable Video Acceleration in the Advance Settings --> Web Protection --> Online Shield. Once thats done it should work.
