can't complete install of newest Thunderbird

I got a new laptop. I'm working through the drudgery of reinstalling everything.

to cut to the chase I downloaded the latest Thunderbird. I'm on the screen where I setup it's various features. I only use the email portion. I fill all that in manually. but I'm not seeing anything to tell it to save what I've entered. So I close out. It must be automatic.

But it's not. I reopen T Bird and I'm back to square 1. I've been on this for 2 hours and to be honest, I'm intensely frustrated.

I'm going to remove it even though I've used T Bird for many years.

Thunderbird doesn't save the account until you finish setup of it.

The email is the only thing I use in T Bird. Filled all that in.

I got around it by installing an old version, inputting the necessary info then upgrading. It seems to have worked.
