Finally I reset Firefox and I can delete bookmarks again BUT another problem occurs which is "I can't save bookmarks to the folder I want, they all go to "recent bookmarks"". I am unable to solve the problem. Please help. (Using Windows 10 64 bit 21H1)

Recent bookmarks is not a real folder, but is a list that shows the result of a database query. Bookmarks that show in the list are stored elsewhere in another folder. You can possibly open a bookmark in a tab and click the star. If you open the folder tree by clicking the arrow at the far right then you can drag the scroll bar to see what folder is highlighted (selected).

The "Edit This Bookmark" dialog that opens if you click the highlighted star has a checkbox with "Show editor when saving" (shortcut key in the dialog is Alt+S). This item is at the bottom just above "Remove Bookmark" and "Done". You can click the highlighted star a second time to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog.

Hi,

Thank you for your prompt reply. Your reply does not solve my problem. I click on the star to save the URL to a specific folder but instead of saving it to my specific folder, Firefox save it to "Recent Bookmarks". If you look at the picture attached, I am trying to save it to a folder namely "Music and Entertainments" folder but it was not save there instead it went into Recent Bookmarks list. Please help

If Firefox hows that the bookmark is saved to the "Music and Entertainments" folder then the bookmark should be in this folder.

Did you check the content of this folder in the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Ctrl+Shift+O) or in the sidebar (Ctrl+B) ?

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
  • you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created

You may have to restore an older bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
