Dear Community,

after installing the new version of Thunderbird, some optics changed. And entering recipients in terms of To:,CC:, BCC: changed. You cannot have the entries any more in separate lines, but they all have to be entered in the same field, much like some MS Software.

I think, it has been nicer the way it was before. Is there some configuration option to return to that behavior?

Many thanks and regards

Günter

I don't think you can revert to the previous behavior.

According with tb site this is a feature actually - you might check "how to" on tb presentation page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/addressing-email

Using the German version of this web site, I get the option to click, whether the "problem has been solved"

I am not sure, whether I should click this for two reasons:

1. My problem is not really a problem. The new way of acting with recipients is not quite comfortable for people aware of how it has been before. But you can get used to it. And it might help users of some other mail clients feel more at home, when they come to thunderbird.

2. What I was asking for was an option to make a selection between the original and the new version. I thought if developers have time to program this feature, they might as well just put a toggle in the preferences section allowing the user to make his choice

So, for now, I will not press the problem solved button. But I thank you for your kind replies.

re :What I was asking for was an option to make a selection between the original and the new version.

No, there is no option. You either use version 68.12.0 that has the old method and you never update again or you use the up to date more secure recent release and adapt to new method. I must admit, it did seem odd at first and in most repects is actually quicker to use. It's surprising how quick it is to get used to using. The link that svlad2009 mentioned is really helpful when getting started. The only downfall I've found is when you might be using a mailing list that inserted all the addresses and not the actual mailing list name or a load of email addresses in a Cc field and want to scan down the list to check if an email address needs removing. It was easy to scan through addresses in a list format than one that is irregular. I narrow the window area in an attempt to make it easier by forcing most onto a visual separate line - not pretty. I guess this was something the developers never thought about.

I do prefer the visual aspect of the older method, the 'pill' is distracting and serves no purpose. No idea where they got that idea but in my opinion, it's not one of the best ideas the devs decided upon. Maybe time will force me to 'get over it'  :)

Dear all,

thank you for your information. I found the following work-around:

You just use an existing email from any folder as a template. Then, you select the function "Edit as new" ("Als neu bearbeiten" in German version).

Then, you get the old behavior. This is probably not, what developers intended, but this leads to the conclusion, that the old subroutines are still there.

This should make it even more simple to provide the user with a toggle button to select between old and new style. Is there a way to tell them?

You can file a bug report OR feature request here bugzilla.mozilla.org and vote for it. Other proponents can find it there and vote for it too.
