Although previously working, I am now randomly getting "Login to server imap.mail.yahoo.com with username thepeckzoo@yahoo.com failed."
Win 10, Thunderbird 60.9.0, yahoo mail
My yahoo email works fine on Yahoo's site and I have not changed any settings. This happened once before a few years ago and you folks determined it had to do with a change deep within your software. So my question is, has something changed again? And how do I get around this. It is really annoying.

None of these apply. Next thoughts?

I changed to the authentication method and it appears to be working. What a pain.
Clearly my last though did apply. Personally I suggest you move to a mail provider that values privacy and just does their job unlike the big three in the US Outlook, Yahoo and Google. GMX is about the most popular English language mail provider in Europe.

Yahoo are fast approaching the status of failed internet company. Their quality of service continues to degrade and I would guess it is the case that your service is also degrading.
Common issues are. Not having an application password set with yahoo. Using an VPN to hide your geo location. Anti virus products failing or nodding off to sleep. (if a reboot cures it for now that is where to look) Logging into Yahoo from a new device or location.
Not that yahoo web mail is a web site and functions as such. That is works proves you know your yahoo web site password. It does not even prove you have the correct password for Thunderbird as Yahoo basically insist on an application password. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/learn-generate-third-party-passwords-sln15241.html
Or if you are using IMAP you can change the authentication method to oAuth2.0

Matt, please accept my apologies for typing a generalization in frustration. Your last option was indeed helpful. Thank you. I know nothing of GMX but I will look into it as you suggest. For now, Yahoo appears to be playing nice with Thunderbird again and that was what I currently needed.
Again, I apologize and thank you.
