How do i get rid of "mapsgallaxy" which steals the firefox screen?

more options

Looked up some maps and afterwards found my firefox screen being replaced with a "mapsgallaxy" screen. I can go to options and restore the firefox screen for the next login but the mapsgallaxy takeover happens again...everytime. No mapsfallaxy file shows up so I cannot delete it. How do I make it go away???????

This article describes how to investigate some possible reasons that your home page change might get lost and be back to the unwanted page at the next Firefox startup, including:

  • Firefox preferences file not being updated (sometimes due to a file lock)
  • Malware created a user.js file which Firefox reads at startup and uses to override your previous session settings
  • External software is "protecting" you from unwanted settings changes by locking in old settings (Advanced SystemCare, and others)

Here's the article: How to fix preferences that won't save

Of course, a live malware infection also can wreak havoc on your Firefox settings, so if you haven't already, please:

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help surface additional bundle items you might have missed. Take out as much trash as possible here. (If in doubt, feel free to post a screenshot.)

(2) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.
