Seburo, you are correct, it is one of the functions that sync does - it stores user names and passwords. My backup I haven't synced in about a month, so there are about 20 or so passwords that will be out of wack if I don't find a solution. But it appears that there isn't a solution to my first or second problem, so it's still my problem and I'll solve it the old fashioned way for now. Thank you gentlemen for trying but I obviously need a better technology solution to keep 3 different platforms worth of passwords running.

Did you have any problem logging in to Sync that might have caused you to request a new Firefox Account Password?

It didn't take my last password. Had it written in 3 places but I still had to reset it. That's a different issue :-/

Sorry, but resetting the Password clears the data from the Sync server. The Password is used to create the encryption keys and a different Password / keys can't decrypt the data; so it is deleted.

Used the same password for 3 years. Know it well. Haven't changed it. So some firefox f-up means all data is gone. Not a solution. Sorry isn't really an answer to either issue. The system may be great for feeling secure, but if there isn't a better answer to that somewhere in firefox's repertoire than the product they're using is poop

You can open about:sync-log via the location bar to see if there are recent error logs available.

You can upload a recent log if the log is too big to put in a reply.

I wiped my computer clean this morning. Firefox was started from scratch so about:sync-log isn't showing anything but a blank table - nothing in it. I have 100% travel job, I have to clean my computer of regularly or something will eventually get it.

Hi

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data.
