After upgrade to 38.5.0 I cannot receive or send emails.
Automatic update, email was working fine before update. I booted to safe mode and removed the Lightning add-on, still does not work. I verified all connection settings are correct and removed the stored password, restarted but I never get prompted to enter the password when clicking Get Messages. I was able to login to my email account through a web browser and I connected successfully and I see there are unread messages in my inbox.

disable anti virus scanning of email and make sure it is allowing Thunderbird full access to the internet.

Make sure Thunderbird isn't blocked by a personal firewall.
I disabled the firewall and restarted Thunderbird, still not working.

i disabled anti-virus and restarted Thunderbird and it worked. I then re-enabled anti-virus and restarted Thunderbird and it worked again. Strange, but at least it is working now. I reinstalled Lightning and everything is now working as it should.
