Will the latest version always be compatible with sites tested in firefox 3.x?
I am a web developer and with my team we have created a complex and javascript heavy set of web applications.
We have tested and certified the full set of applications against firefox 3.6, but we are missing out on the latest speed improvements and features available in later releases of firefox.
I need to know if the latest versions of firefox officially support the full set of functionality defined for firefox 3.6? If there is an official response from mozilla that would be best as upgrading would mean informing multiple clients that our engineering team will support the latest version of firefox.

You should make compatible your applications with FF10 because the next Extensed Support Realease for Firefox will be based on FF10. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Enterprise/Firefox/ExtendedSupport:Proposal. It's time and money saving because ESR will be used by corporates in the future.
Starting with Firefox 4, APIs are no longer frozen, which means that new versions have new features added and have stuff deleted so there is no guarantee that older code will work in future versions.
