FF won't remember settings (user names, language, etc)
I'm American but living in Switzerland and using the US version of Firefox. One problem is, GoogleNews always shows the US edition while I'd like to get the Swiss edition, but Firefox doesn't seem to remember the settings (though cookies are enabled, etc). FF also won't remember my hotmail user name, so I have to enter it every time I log into my email account. I cleared all data several times, and installed Firefox 9 Beta to see if it'd work better: it doesn't. Thanks

Such details are stored in a cookie.
Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.
- Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
No, this doesn't work. I'm not looking for Firefox to remember my password, just the email address so I don't have to type it all over again every time I check email. Firefox 7 (and all earlier versions) had no trouble doing that. And it even works now on other sites, but not at hotmail.com. And Google News still switches back to US edition, despite the exception added.
See:
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > "Remember search and form history"
Yes, I did, and "Remember search etc" is checked. Autocomplete just isn't working on hotmail.com... Funny
