Chase bank has recently put a front end check that blocks all users with Windows 7 ,8 ,8.1. They have a page that says the browsers need to be changed to ones supported, yet they ignore the version of the browser "Firefox Setup 115.31.0esr.exe" which Mozilla updates monthly for security fixes. Thus they are effectively forcing anyone that bought a computer from 10/22/2009 to 01/10/2023 14 years.

I would like to know the number of users that are using the Firefox Setup 115.31.0esr release so that I can make Chase aware of how many home users they are impacting with this front end block to logging into Chase for our checking, savings, credit cards and mortgages. With some actual numbers they may reverse this problem by simply removing the front end check of windows version before allowing user login.

Without some idea of the potential number of users being blocked from access, they may just continue to ignore us.

And now that Windows 10 is not longer a supported version of Windows, will that be next. Steven Hudson [edited email from community support forum]

I know banks like Chase and Citi has fairly recently required Firefox 128.0 or later to use the sites.

Since you appear to have the eol Windows 7 the most current version you can run is Firefox 115 ESR currently at 115.31.0esr. Firefox 116.0 and later requires Windows 10, 11 to run. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-windows-7-8-and-81-moving-extended-support

If you cannot update your Windows to 10 or 11 to use the current Firefox versions, then there is something you can try to fool the bank sites into thinking you have a more current version. The more technical option may be to dual boot with a current version of a Linux distro.

  1. In a new tab, type or paste about:config with a colon : in the Location (address) bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
  2. In the search box on top of the page, type or paste forceVersion and pause while the list is filtered
  3. Double-click the network.http.useragent.forceVersion preference to display an editing field, and change the value to 128 or 140 then press Enter/Return or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

Mozilla has been the only ones still supporting the eold Windows 7, 8, 8.1 with Firefox when Chrome/Chromium based web browsers dropped support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 back in January 2023 being that last releases to support.

James, If I understand your suggestion, that will only change the version number on the current boot of Windows 7 in order to get past the windows check/block that was enacted. Then to reset my system a simple reboot resets my systems version to Windows 7. I do actually hope to get a newer computer but right now that is not within my budget just yet. Many thanks to the tip. I will be trying it in the next day or so. Steven

The version change in Firefox only changes what the Firefox version shows as and nothing to with your Windows version.
