transfer of bookmarks from additional chrome account

more options

Hello, I would like to import bookmarks, passwords and other settings from a second chrome account. Is it possible to do this? Do I have to create a second account as well on FF? I would assume so, but trying to get help via the FF Support page is not very easy. I realize this is a site for developers and code contributors, but I would like to move to Firefox because the browser has done and excellent job in building its robust platform over the years. What it boils down to, is I would like to be able to switch among accounts as I do in chrome. Is that possible? If not how to I go about creating a second usable account. I am sure the answer is easy, but obviously my wording for questions were not concise enough to get help.

Thank you for your help.

Hi, it's not your fault that specific things are difficult to find. Search deluges you with keyword matches and it isn't especially smart about it.

I think Firefox imports from your "default" or original Chrome profile. I don't know whether you can change your default Chrome profile and, if so, whether Firefox would then "see" it. Perhaps safer not to try that...

You can do a manual export/import to move the bookmarks to Firefox.

Chrome

To find the steps to export your bookmarks, scroll down to the "Move bookmarks to another browser" section of this article: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/96816?hl=en

Firefox

After you have that file, use the steps in this article: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file

Now... that may lump all the bookmarks together into an Imported Bookmarks folder instead of restoring them to their original locations in Google Chrome, because many things do not match between the bookmark systems. You can use the Library window to re-organize. See the "How do I organize my bookmarks?" section of this article: Bookmarks in Firefox.

Let us know how it goes.

Whoops, I missed an important aspect of your question.

Like Chrome, Firefox supports multiple profiles. However, if you connect both profiles to the same Firefox Account, then the data will be merged together. If you need to create a second, separate profile, for example, so work activity stays separate from personal activity, then you either would need to create a second Firefox Account with a different email address, or simply not connect the second profile to any Firefox account and just keep the data local on your PC.

For more information on how to create a second profile, see: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

(It would be much easier with a dedicated toolbar button and automatically created desktop shortcuts, but there isn't a timetable for those yet.)
