When I perform a search when using fire fox Android the search results show up in a Google window? Why is this normal, and our my searches in this case safe?

Do you have Google set as the default search engine in the Search option in Settings?
Yes I do. I understand I can choose/change this, but I want to understand if changing this has any effect on security/privacy? If I use Fire Fox but it uses Google, are my searches really not private? Are they just deleted from viewing on my phone but the actual search engine chosen is still collect my search history?
