I'm running Firefox 74.0 on a Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 OS. I've noticed that the background image on websites will disappear, but not the background color. I've attached two images to show what I'm talking about. I can have them reappear by simply reloading the page. This is not a major issue, but wondering if there is something I can do to correct it. I've also provided a screenshot showing my system hardware. Thank you!

Is this with all websites/pages, some, a few?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

Did you check from what server(s) these images are downloaded ?

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

Firefox shows an highlighted shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Tracking Protection is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more details and possibly disable the protection

You can check in the Web Console what content is blocked.

Thanks to you, both, FredMcD and cor-el. I tried both of your suggestions, but still have the issue. With respect to cor-el's suggestion, the image I showed is from my own website. It's static HTML, with a little bit of CSS and Javascript thrown in. The Javascript is solely to pop up random images each time the site is loaded, as well as some random quotes and a random fact at the bottom. I don't have any tracking, and I don't use cookies. The background image will load fine initially, but when I open another tab and come back to that first page, many times, the background image will be gone. So, it's not a problem of it not loading; it's a problem whereby the image *disappears* for some, strange reason. Never seen it before. Thanks, again, for the help!

Could be related to this feature:

Firefox will detect if your computer’s memory is running low, which is defined as lower than 400MB, and suspend unused tabs that you haven’t used or looked at in a while. The new tab unload feature is controlled on the about:config page with a preference that you can set to false to disable this feature. Keep in mind that this makes you vulnerable to low memory issues.

  • browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required) ?

Thanks, again, cor-el, but that setting was already set to "false".
