I am using the latest FF and Flash on Win 10, which is also current. Some websites have small video clips embedded (like grocery or retail sites for their ads). I click on the arrows in the clip and get a black box. I can go to the site in IE and they play. My plugin is enabled for FF. This is fairly recent. Thanks for any help. Below is the screenshot taken with FF.

Hi, Avast is the issue. It does not play nice with Firefox. Need to turn off something I think. There is security software like Avast/AVG, Kaspersky, BitDefender & ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate. If you are running any of the above software please check their community forum for a work around to apply settings.

I have already done that, and it did not work. It would seem that it would also not work with IE if that was the problem, but it does work in IE.

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are general suggestions to try when it stops working normally:

Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature and extensions that counter ads and tracking may break websites that weren't built to operate normally without the blocked components.

Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar, near the lock icon? More info on managing the Tracking Protection feature in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix should provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you may need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

I cleared the cache and cookies. The only tracking blocked is "receive notifications." I only use the FF tracking protection. I also started in "safe" mode. I only use a few plugins. I had previously re-installed the Flash plugin. I still am getting that black screen when I click to play the videos. I can get some videos to play in FF. For example the 4 clips at the bottom yield the black screen when I click, but I can view the clip under product description. I have also allowed pop-ups on the site.

The videos on say https://www.bestbuy.com/site/bella-electric-spiralizer-white/5948197.p?skuId=5948197 are using a HTML5 player and not the Flash Player Plugin.

You can check at https://www.youtube.com/html5/ to see if your system full supports HTML5 players. If a couple checks are red then you may have a N or KN edition of Windows 10.

If so then you may not have the media feature pack installed as it adds the needed codecs that web browsers like Firefox and SeaMonkey uses.

I have all 6 boxes checked blue, so I think I'm okay. Thanks to everyone trying to help. I just assumed it was with Flash because another site had Flash and it used to work but now just spins...and again it works in IE. Their solution was to use Chrome, which I did not want to do.

Hi, actually the problem still lies I think in Avast . Also just because IE can play it does not mean Avast is not the issue with Firefox as per URL supplied, a little outdated info and suggestion to go to the Avast Support Pages for a work around. You will see others have posted also there.

Thanks. I will investigate further and see if I can find a solution with Avast. I had already unchecked the https setting when I tried to fix an earlier site, so it was already disabled. I will check out their forums and report back if I get it fixed.

I don't get it you refuse to disable avast to just check to see where the problem is or is not? If your not willing to follow help suggestion help is not going to come to help on here.
