the save button opens a folder instead of saving the download

When I want to download a file I navigate to the folder where I want the file to be saved, and hit "Save", it opens the folder at the top of the list, instead of just saving the file. I do not have the folder selected, and if I did I should have an "Open" or "Open Folder" button.

It finally saves the file when I am in a directory without sub-folders. Not only is it annoying, but if I am in a directory with a deep folder structure, I can hit save quite a bit until it finally saves. then of course I have to go through the hassle of opening my file manager and relocate the download to where I want it.

This problem started within the last 12 hours or less.

No thinking about it my file managers do not have save buttons; copy or cut buttons sometimes though. If you wish to seek help from fellow Firefox users volunteering their own time to try to assist you maybe you should reconsider your attitude and bite your tongue rather than repeatedly criticising and insulting them.

The downloads work fine for me, as tested on various Operating Systems and Firefox version combinations including testing a Canonical build 50.0.2 on Ubuntu.

Did you test in Firefox's safe mode

Maybe for instance your outdated Mozilla Archive Format 4.0.1 is involved in the problem.

I will leave it to others to follow up with this.

I am not too sure why you are apparently opening a file manager before downloading a file.

Firefox should let you set a default location for downloads, or alternatively gives you the option to ask every time.

If the files are videos is it related to the sue and setting of your Extension

I am not, and my file manager does not have a save button, does yours? I have "Ask every time" set, and it does ask me, so I navigate to the place I want to put the file (a folder). There is a save button (see image). Now read my first posting again, slowly.

There should be a way for this support site to show that I was not born yesterday and have been using Firefox for a long time, and computers for decades, when I ask questions here!!!! Every time I ask a question someone insults my intelligence!!!

Thank you for volunteering your time. It is a noble thing for sure.

When I am volunteering at the soup kitchen, and someone who is getting a free meal, gets angry because he can not find the salt and pepper shakers, I know that i am not personally responsible for his anger, they get taken all the time. We do not tie the condiments down and anchor them to the table leg out of respect for their situation. We listen closely when someone speaks, unless they get dangerous. If I do not understand what they are trying to tell me, I try to ask further questions for clarification, I do not assume that they are an imbecile, that can not handle a simple task. I don't even look for them myself or ask around, that could insult their intelligence. I go in the back, and get a different set, and bring it to them.

I explained the problem very clearly the first time in describing a very common procedure up to the point of failure. I did not use names for the buttons that do not exist, nor get the order of the procedure mixed up. I Even ended with: "This problem started within the last 12 hours or less.", which is a clear indicator that I know the procedure and have done it with success before. It should not be hard at all to understand, for someone with enough knowledge of the program and it's procedures as well as the intelligence to be of help, unless they were assuming that I was most likely the problem right off the bat. So, sorry if I offended you, but "No thinking about it..." is where you should have started in the first place.

I Know how to troubleshoot Firefox, the real problem is that I have to do it way to often, and I have a life of my own with plenty of problems to deal with, to keep me busy.

My suggestion: "There should be a way for this support site to show that I was not born yesterday and have been using Firefox for a long time, and computers for decades, when I ask questions here." is still valid, and it should not be hard to add something to user profile settings for this site, that allows one to state their level of knowledge of computers, their OS and the Mozilla programs they use. It also makes a heap of sense and could avoid a lot of conflict in the first place.

Good day.
