I've downloaded TB 45 but can not install it. I already have 38 and want to update it?

I have TB 38 already but want to update to 45 so I can install Lightning. How do I get the new version TB to install? The new version downloaded to a folder (thunderbird-45.1.1.tar.bz2) which will extract, but where do I go from there?

You have neglected to mention which OS you are using. The tar.bz2 suggests Linux.

Does your distro not offer TB 45 yet?
