How do I conduct a search and include "but not" such as "egg but not chicken"?

Is it possible to conduct a search but exclude some results. For example, is it possible to search "egg" but exclude "chicken egg"? how would I do that if it is possible?

search: egg -chicken should work, but you know how search engine are these days.
