In the last 2-3 weeks Firefox crashes at least once per day. I don't use my new HP Windows 7 w/ 12 gb RAM desktop CPU any differently that I have for years. I'm retired and my surfing is all casual and unremarkable.

The only thing unusual I've noticed is that at some point my RAM percentage indicator which previously has never risen above 35% usage no matter what I was doing including copying DVD movies now will spontaneously rise to between 40-50% before crashing. My work around now is to use my task manager to shut down my current browser session and then open a fresh browser. My RAM percentage drops back to its normal 18-25% just as its always been until the recent Firefox so-called upgraded versions

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
