I must have somehow downloaded this version when I rebuilt my laptop. I get too many crashes, but on my desktop PC running V17.0.1 I get no trouble with the same sites. My laptop is Windows 7, desktop is XP.

Yes, you can and should immediately upgrade to Firefox 17.0.1. Download it from www.getfirefox.com, install it over your existing Firefox, and everything should be saved.
