Lost Incoming e-mail message sound with latest 153 update

dougjp

As in the subject, my computer has sound everywhere else but, despite 'play a sound' still showing as ticked in general settings, no sound happens when an e-mail arrives. And, in general settings for 'when a new message' arrives, I can hit the Play Button there and the sound happens. How do I fix this?

Solved, finally.

Unlike with all 140 and previous versions, with this new ("Meadow" it says in 'About Thunderbird') 153 version, Windows 11 Notification Center "Do Not Disturb" being set to ON stops the new e-mail notification sound being played. This despite all other settings to allow play a sound being on, in Thunderbird and Windows sound settings. I even set Thunderbird as a priority app to notify, in that Notification Center, so that notifications happen even when in Do not disturb, but that didn't help. Yes the pop up text showed for each new e-mail received.

I had to turn off Do Not Disturb completely in the Notification Center.

Please look into this as I don't think this problem should have happened as a result of an update.
