i receive a pdf receipt, when viewing with the thunderbird viewer, the price is white on white background making it invisible. if i save and open in firefox, price is black like the rest of the pdf.

I suggest you file a bug report for that. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/home

My understanding of the PDF implementation is it is basically a copy and paste of Firefox's. I really can not speculate why Thunderbird might use different fonts internally in the PDF than Firefox.
